Sous la forme légère d'un film de vacances, une pensée s'installe : tout est eau.

Le film accompagne Alain, philosophe qui a enseigné toute sa vie les mythes grecs, lors d'un voyage en Crète — sa première traversée de la mer depuis son accident. Aux courants se mêlent la nage, la philosophie, et un mythe qu'Alain raconte de sa voix : Prométhée et Épiméthée, et ce « singe nu » désarmé à qui il faut bien donner le feu pour qu'il survive.

Hémythologie fait dialoguer la mythologie, la philosophie et l'eau — celle d'où nous venons tous, celle qui sépare les vivants des morts, celle qui porte les corps, ou ne les porte pas de la même façon. L'eau y est le milieu commun où le mythe, la mémoire d'un homme et le présent d'une traversée se touchent.

In the light form of a holiday film, a thought settles in: everything is water.

The film accompanies Alain, a philosopher who has taught Greek myths all his life, on a journey to Crete — his first sea crossing since his accident. Into the currents are woven swimming, philosophy, and a myth Alain tells in his own voice: Prometheus and Epimetheus, and that disarmed "naked ape" who must, after all, be given fire in order to survive.

Hémythologie sets mythology, philosophy and water in dialogue — the water we all come from, the water that separates the living from the dead, the water that carries bodies, or fails to carry them in the same way. Water is the common medium where myth, one man's memory and the present of a crossing touch.
