The treatise that, twelve years after the HEAD thesis, draws a deep practical theory from the practice (by testing the 2013 intuitions through works put into action — Perdus en mer…, 1689, and above all Contrat Social (La désinstitutionnalisation)), then building the theory out of that practice. Its central proposition: the instaurative documentary (after Souriau) — neither to capture nor to invent, but to instaure — and its verb, to fictionalise (fictionner): to fictionalise is not to embellish or to lie, it is to problematise. Against the smooth fiction of the “perfect” script, the book defends the roughness of the real.

It threads a genealogy — Jean Rouch's shared anthropology, Stéphane Breton's presence of the filmmaker (footing), the pragmatism of Peirce, James and Dewey (inquiry, warranted assertability against absolute truth) — toward a reverse anthropology: turning the dispositif back on itself, treating the gap between one's starting hypotheses and what the field produces as first-order data. It rereads Contrat Social through Axel Honneth's theory of recognition, and proposes an aesthetics of method in which the image itself becomes an act of recognition. Twelve years of maturation, through the works, made theory.
